spec sheet & design according to rumors

The release of the 24″ iMac in May 2021 had been a big event in the tech world, since in addition to a design refresh, it had been the first Apple computer to incorporate the Apple Silicon M1 chip.

At present, many rumors lead us to believe that the Apple brand intends to present in June a updated version of the iMac Pro, its iMac aimed at professionals. Will this all-in-one desktop Mac that was withdrawn from sale in March 2021 be brought up to date thanks to Apple’s in-house chips?

We conducted our investigation and gathered all the 2022 iMac Pro Rumors from Top Journalists and Analysts like Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman or Ross Young.

Design: a new iMac Pro in the chassis of the iMac 2021?

It would seem logical that Apple would take over the iMac M1 design for the new iMac Pro. But will the Cupertino company succeed in reproducing the performance of the 2017 iMac Pro, namely: creating a monster of power while keeping the thin chassis of the mainstream iMac? That’s what we hope!

We also hear that this new version of the iMac Pro will be available in different colorslike the iMac M1.

Screen: 27 or 32 inches for the future iMac Pro?

Historically, the iMac Pro has been differentiated from the iMac by a bigger screen. We can therefore expect this to be the case for the 2022 model. The question is how big this screen will be: 27 or 32 inches? According to Ross Young, the 32 inch would not be on the agenda This year.

Since this new iMac is supposed to be aimed at professionals, it seems logical to find a screen of as good quality as the mini LED screens MacBook Pro M1 Pro/M1 Max, with the ProMotion technology that offers variable image refresh at 120 Hz.

Unlocking via Face ID also seems unlikely at present. Users will have to make do with Touch ID unlocking through the Magic Keyboard.

    Processor: M1 or M2 chip?

The mystery hangs over the release of the M2 chip. Corridor rumors predict an announcement as early as March, when others are betting on a release during the second half 2022.

One thing is (almost) certain: the new range of iMac Pro will be at least equipped with the M1 Pro and/or M1 Max chips.

    connectors

We can expect connectivity similar to that of the MacBook Pro 2021: USB-C Thunderbolt ports, a reserved SD card port, an HDMI port, as well as an Ethernet port integrated into the power supplylike the iMac 2021.

    Storage and RAM

Based on the 2021 MacBook Pros, we can expect a base configuration of 16 GB RAM and one 512 GB SSD.

What we know about the price of the new iMac Pro

Unfortunately, little is known about the price of this future Mac… But nothing prevents us from deducing an estimate of the price of the iMac Pro 2022 from a few elements.

The Apple brand’s latest 27-inch iMac is currently available at a base price of 1,999 euros. It is therefore very likely that with the technical improvements and the switch to the Apple Silicon chip, the price is higher to that.

When will the new Apple iMac be released?

According to Ross Young, and despite rumors anticipating a spring 2022 release, the iMac Pro would be released in June, at the beginning of summer. If so, we could have a announcement during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) from Apple.

The iMac Pro and Mac Pro are the last Apple computers that have not yet made the transition to Apple Silicon. It therefore seems logical that a new version of these models should come out this year, or at the latest next year.
